History Of Maharashtra Day

The language was used to determine state borders in India's States Reorganisation Act of 1956. However, the new Bombay State that resulted from this legislation included regions where multiple languages (including Marathi, Gujarati, Kutchi, and Konkani) were spoken. The Sanyukta Maharashtra Samiti was instrumental in separating Bombay State into two regions, including territories where Gujarati and Kutchi are the dominant languages and the other containing areas where Marathi and Konkani are the dominant languages.

The Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960, passed by the Parliament of India on April 25, 1960, is responsible for splitting the state of Maharashtra and creating the state of Gujarat as a consequence of this uprising. Because the legislation became law on May 1, 1960, its anniversary is commemorated every year on May 1.
